The ACL Guardians started the Round 1 in style, winning on the road against the ACL Rangers at Surprise Stadium by a score of 4-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Guardians right-hander José Armixo threw 5.1 innings allowing 1 run.

The Guardians had to work out of trouble in the bottom of the ninth. The score was 4-1, ACL, with no one out. ACL, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Kevin Knapp dug in at the plate, but on a first pitch fastball, he grounded out.
