ACL Guardians manager Kevin Randel knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 20-year-old right-hander Flip Pomper silenced the host ACL Rangers at Surprise Stadium. The Guardians shut out the Rangers by a final score of 3-0, to give the Guardians a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Bob Simon had a direct impact on the outcome. Simon contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put ACL up, 2-0.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said ACL manager Kevin Randel.

The next game is set to be played for Thursday, August 27th , 2026 at Chain of Lakes Park.
