Firebirds Score Late to Upend Barons, 4-2
|
Mississippi Firebirds starter Tynan Ford pitched his team past the Birmingham Barons, 4-2. The winner was Ford. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The loser was José Aguilera. Juan Martínez earned the save, his 1st.
Ben Stevenson came through with a big-time hit for Mississippi. The third baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 4-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Ford said.
The Barons fall to 5-7 and continue to sputter in the early going.
