Hammers Send Chattanooga Home with 3-1 Loss
|
The Mississippi Hammers rode a solid performance from 22-year-old starting pitcher Tim Williams to a win, beating the Chattanooga Lookouts, 3-1, at AT&T Field. In 7 innings, Williams surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. The victory makes Mississippi 9-5.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Hammers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the third, when first baseman Manny Tobías hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Chris Ford and made the score 1-0, Hammers. Tobías was 2-5 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Williams.
