The Montgomery Biscuits outlasted Jorge Cortéz and the Tennessee Smokies, 11-9. Cortéz was impressive in the loss. The Tennessee third baseman was 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. The Smokies fall to 9-12 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2026 season.

The Smokies had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Biscuits going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old second baseman Alex Baker came to the plate. Baker hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 fastball from Tennessee hurler Sergio Acosta. It was Baker's 4th double of the year.

"We took advantage of our opportunities," Baker told the Montgomery News. "It's as simple as that."
