Generals Shimmy Past Smokies, 4-3
The Jackson Generals had to overcome a fine effort from Tennessee pitcher Bobby Hockley to win, 4-3, at The Ballpark at Jackson. Hockley went 8 innings and allowed 4 runs. Andy Ashley earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He upped his record to 3-0. With this game in the books, Jackson is 34-27, Tennessee 30-31.

The Generals beat the Smokies in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Steve Wilson produced in the bottom of the eighth. Batting against Bobby Hockley, Wilson gave his team the lead, 4-3, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"We ground out the win," said Wilson. "That's all that matters."
