Shuckers Score Late to Nip Smokies, 5-4
|
The bat of Juan Martínez helped the Biloxi Shuckers top the Tennessee Smokies, 5-4. Martínez went 3-3 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times for Biloxi. Biloxi reliever Alan Howard was credited with the win. His record goes to 2-0. Juan Vega took the loss for Tennessee. Greg Reiher closed it out for Biloxi, earning his 2nd save.
Martínez had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-2 changeup from Juan Vega, he banged a run-scoring double to right, giving the Shuckers a 5-4 lead. It was the 4th double of the year for Martínez.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Biloxi manager Michael Barrett.
The victory puts Biloxi at 20-50.
