The Birmingham Barons knocked off the Montgomery Biscuits, 4-1, in Southern League action at Regions Park. Birmingham pitcher and Monción, Dominican Republic, native Cristiano Rodríguez had an outstanding performance. Earning his 2nd save for Birmingham was Jose A. Suarez. The third-place Barons now have a record of 34-37.

Birmingham went up, 4-1, on Luis Vargas's 2nd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Vargas hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Montgomery pitcher Sam Church stewing.

"Makes our job easier," said Vargas, "when our pitchers shut the opposition down."
