Mobile got a big-time effort from pitcher Norm Sims, but it wasn't enough to keep the Jackson Generals from winning the game, 3-2. Sims threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The second-place Generals bumped their record to 43-31.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Bryan Emery came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Mobile pitcher Milo Svela, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Jackson on top, 3-2.

Emery called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
