The Birmingham Barons faced a tough opponent in Mississippi pitcher Steve Preston, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Trustmark Park by a final score of 6-4. Preston went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Reliever Luis Chavarría picked up the win. His record improves to 4-2. António Martínez, who is tied for 4th in the SL in wins with 8, took the loss. With the win, Birmingham raised its record to 42-40.

Birmingham second baseman Juan Ramos contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the ninth. With two down, he hit a cutter to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 58th hit of the season and put the Barons ahead, 6-4.

"What's not to like about a win?" said Ramos.
