The New York Mets overcame a pretty good performance by Pittsburgh shortstop Jeremy Bowen, beating the Pirates, 8-5, at Citi Field. Bowen belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The win was credited to António Seroseres in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sam Scott took the loss. At 2-1, the Mets have played well so far.

New York went up, 5-4, on Kenny Hernandez's 1st double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Hernandez hit in the bottom of the seventh, made Pittsburgh pitcher Sam Scott grimace.

"This team is on a mission," said Hernandez, who is one of the clubhouse leaders. "I like our focus."
