Hammers Get Hard-Earned Win
The rain came, as predicted, but the Mississippi Hammers and Tennessee Smokies were able to complete their ballgame.

The Mississippi Hammers topped the Tennessee Smokies, 4-3, in Southern League action at Trustmark Park. The standout performance belonged to Mississippi first baseman and West Jordan, Utah, native Manny Tobías. Shawn Black, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1.

Juan Buckley contributed a productive at-bat in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, he reached on an error by the 1B, driving in 1 run. His at-bat helped Mississippi get the win.

"No one likes losing," said Tennessee manager Kevin Riggs. "But we'll turn this thing around."

The 4th-place Smokies have dropped 7 straight games.
