Barons Take Down Smokies, 3-2
|
The Birmingham Barons had to overcome a fine effort from Tennessee pitcher Bob Gibson to win, 3-2, in 10 innings at Regions Park. Gibson went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. Birmingham reliever Jose A. Suarez, who is tied for 7th in the SL in saves with 14, was credited with the win. His record goes to 5-8. Bob Petersen took the loss for Tennessee. The Smokies, now 55-50, have lost 6 straight.
The Barons got a clutch hit from left fielder Rob Larson. In the bottom of the tenth, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Barons.
