Hammers Get Clutch Win Versus Birmingham
The Mississippi Hammers did just enough to nip the Birmingham Barons, 3-2, in 21 innings. Mississippi pitcher Don St. John, in particular, had a standout performance. The win belonged to José Jiménez in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Raúl Muñíz took the loss for Birmingham. Picking up the save was Shawn Black. He's now 2 for 2 in save chances.

Mississippi used the timely hitting of Jorge Ferrer to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 21st inning to put the Hammers on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 6 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Mississippi skipper Chris Herrmann.

With the win, Mississippi pushed its record to 69-55.
