The Mississippi Hammers, despite a fine performance by Jackson pitcher Mike Kirby, grabbed a 3-2 win at Trustmark Park. Kirby allowed 2 runs over 7 innings. Esteban Soto, who leads the SL in saves with 34, picked up the win in relief. Hugh Herring took the loss for Jackson. Mississippi has rattled off 4 straight wins.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when first baseman Shawn Simmons, who leads the SL in doubles with 38, hit a double. The Hammers went on to win.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Simmons.
