The Corpus Christi Hooks did just enough to sneak past the Midland RockHounds, 4-3, at Whataburger Field. Corpus Christi pitcher António Solís, in particular, had a standout performance. Solís, who is tied for 10th in the TEX in strikeouts with 45, went the distance for Corpus Christi. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. The Corpus Christi win streak is now 3 games.
The RockHounds had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Hooks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old left fielder Juan Gutiérrez came to the plate. Gutiérrez hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 fastball from Midland hurler Chris Bradford. It was Gutiérrez's 10th double of the year.
After the game, Corpus Christi manager Alex Gordon applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
