Behind a solid performance from first baseman Eric Thomas, the Arkansas Travelers defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, 7-2. Thomas was 1-4 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 and driving in 4 for the Travelers. Juan Méndez got the win, improving to 5-7. He held the Naturals to 1 run on 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Mike Wolf nailed down the save.
Right Fielder Jim Taylor made an impact for Arkansas, when he swatted a run-scoring triple off Steve Bell in the top of the third. For the contest, Taylor was 2-5 with a triple, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Arkansas skipper Mike Redmond.
