Elliott Slugs Mavericks to 9-2 Win
The High Desert Mavericks thumped the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 9-2, at LoanMart Field. Joe Elliott was a big reason his team got the win. Elliott was 2-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Willie Miller got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Quakes to 1 run on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3. Curt Beck recorded the save for High Desert, his 1st of the season.

With High Desert leading 5-1 in the top of the seventh, Elliott came up to bat against Rancho Cucamonga pitcher Ed McClain. Elliott hit a curveball to left for a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season put the Mavericks on top, 8-1.

Said losing manager Matt Holliday: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."

The loss drops Rancho Cucamonga to 1-2.
