Mavericks Win at Home, 7-5
|
Though he had a terrific game, Jeremy Lilly could not prevent his team, the Stockton Ports, from absorbing a loss. High Desert won the game, 7-5. Lilly was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 3 walks. Chris Martin earned his 2nd save, after closing out the game. The loss drops Stockton to 7-5.
The Ports had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Mavericks going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Lou Manning came to the plate. Manning hit a 2-run double on a full count cutter from Stockton hurler Jim Rogers. It was Manning's 3rd double of the year.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Manning told the High Desert Today. "You win just by scoring more runs."
