High Desert and Modesto played a hard-fought contest.

Modesto got a terrific performance from pitcher Greg Miller, but it wasn't enough to beat the High Desert Mavericks. High Desert won the John Thurman Field contest, 3-2. Miller threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. The Mavericks have now won 4 straight.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the ninth, with the game tied, Alfredo Pérez was at the plate when High Desert scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Mavericks to go in front, 3-2.

Pérez attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
