Mavericks Earn Clutch Win, 6-5
|
Getting a good performance from catcher Joel Kirkpatrick, the High Desert Mavericks defeated the Inland Empire 66ers, 6-5. Kirkpatrick was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Mavericks. Ben Tucker snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 2 hits over 2 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season. The triumph puts High Desert at 16-16 for the season.
Kirkpatrick had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a full count changeup from Shawn Rice, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Mavericks a 6-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Kirkpatrick.
"We ground out the win," said Kirkpatrick. "That's all that matters."
