In a low-scoring contest between the San Jose Giants and the Bakersfield Blaze, Mike Thompson was the X factor. The San Jose right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. The win for the Giants lifted their record to 19-17.

Cedric Kozicz had a big run-scoring double for the Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning. With San Jose leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Jimmy Smith and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Giants ahead, 2-0.

Kozicz said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
