Blaze Pick Up 3-0 Win Against San Jose
|
Stan Valentine brought his A-game to help Bakersfield defeat the San Jose Giants, 3-0. The winner was Valentine. He threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was António Mena. Brad Bane picked up the save for Bakersfield, his 2nd of the year.
The Giants had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Blaze going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old second baseman Steve Graves came to the plate. Graves hit a 2-run home run on a 0-2 fastball from San Jose hurler António Mena. It was Graves's 2nd home run of the year.
"Stan gave us everything he had," said Bakersfield manager Joe McEwing.
Bakersfield is now 25-11, San Jose 23-13.
