Nuts left fielder Ed Alston put his stamp on his team's 9-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Alston went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for Modesto in the contest. Dan Peoples, the winner, improved to 4-1. He held the Quakes to 2 runs on 3 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 4. Today's win puts Modesto at 19-31, while Rancho Cucamonga falls to 26-24.

In the bottom of the fourth, Greg Barnes delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Modesto third baseman hit a run-scoring single, putting the Nuts in front, 9-3.
