Modesto pitcher Cristóbal Mercado did his part in helping his team defeat the Stockton Ports, 5-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the left-hander. Modesto has run its win streak to 5 consecutive.

Robinson Encarnación had a big 2-run home run for the Nuts in the top of the fifth inning. With Modesto leading 2-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a cutter from Tablighat Khassanov, who is tied for 10th in the CAL in innings pitched with 58.2, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Nuts on top, 4-0.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Encarnación told the Modesto Times.
