The San Jose Giants defeated the Bakersfield Blaze, 9-1, at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Leading the charge for San Jose was shortstop Ernie Palmer. He was 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Luis Ortíz, the winner, is now 1-1. He struck out 8 and walked 1 over 6.2 innings, while allowing no runs on 7 hits. The Giants improved their record to 34-26 by beating Bakersfield.

With San Jose leading 5-0 in the top of the eighth, Palmer came up to bat against Bakersfield pitcher Derek Ball. Palmer hit a fastball to right-center for a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Giants on top, 9-0.

"When the ball finds the sweet spot," said Palmer, "I can't complain."
