Mavericks Send Rancho Cucamonga Home with 5-3 Loss
The High Desert Mavericks defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 5-3, in California League action at Stater Bros. Stadium. High Desert pitcher Pat Peterson had a standout performance. Peterson, now 5-4, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. The setback makes Rancho Cucamonga 33-30.

Joe Elliott had a big run-scoring double for the Mavericks in the bottom of the fifth inning. With High Desert leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a curveball from Jonathan Craft and swatted a double to right. It was his 13th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mavericks ahead, 3-1.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said High Desert manager Vance Wilson.
