A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Modesto Nuts and Bakersfield Blaze.

The Modesto Nuts faced a tough opponent in Bakersfield pitcher Stan Valentine, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark by a final score of 7-5. Valentine went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. The victory puts Modesto at 27-39.

Modesto used the timely hitting of Juan Flores to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nuts on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Flores.
