The Inland Empire-High Desert matchup turned into a slugfest.

High Desert center fielder Brad Hussey had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hussey was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2, even as Inland Empire beat the Mavericks, 13-10. Oscar Oglethorpe snagged the win in relief. He goes to 1-2 on the season. Joel Howell suffered the loss. Mike Wolf got credit for the save for Inland Empire. It was his 19th of the year.

Inland Empire used a well-timed hit by Trevor Kirkham to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the 66ers ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.

"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Kent Matthes.

Inland Empire has now won 3 in a row.
