Mavericks Come Up Short at Lancaster, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Lancaster JetHawks and the High Desert Mavericks, Ken Owens was the X factor. The Lancaster right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Owens got the win, improving to 8-7. He gave up 6 hits and walked 3 over 5.1 innings. He allowed no runs. Julián Castaneda was called on to finish, recording his 12th save.
In the bottom of the first, Randy Alexander delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Lancaster center fielder hit a run-scoring single, putting the JetHawks in front, 3-2.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Alexander.
With the win, Lancaster goes to 52-53, while the Mavericks fall to 59-46.
