San Jose picked up a win at San Jose Municipal Stadium, bumping off the Visalia Rawhide, 6-2. Pitcher Luis Ortíz was a major reason the Giants emerged victorious. Ortíz, now 5-5, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. San Jose is now 63-48, while Visalia is 50-61.

The Rawhide had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Giants going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old center fielder Jorge Díaz came to the plate. Díaz hit a 2-run double on a full count curveball from Visalia hurler Al Ford. It was Díaz's 31st double of the year.

San Jose manager Steve Liddle was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
