The Modesto Nuts picked up a win at John Thurman Field, downing the Bakersfield Blaze, 4-0. On the mound for Modesto was right-hander Mike Piper, who played a pivotal role in the win. The second-place Blaze have dropped 5 straight games.

Modesto went in front, 2-0, on Ed Alston's 6th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Alston hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Bakersfield pitcher Stan Miller visibly perturbed.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Modesto manager Audo Vicente.
