Riding the 3-hit performance of the 25-year old second baseman Randy Clark, the Stockton Ports defeated the Bakersfield Blaze, 4-1. Dave Wood got credit for the win, improving to 5-6. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits in 5.1 innings. Their 67-63 record puts the Ports third in the North Division.

Bob Tranter, who is tied for 9th in the CAL in doubles with 25, had a direct impact on the outcome. Tranter contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the seventh inning to put Stockton up, 3-1.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Stockton skipper Kelly Stinnett.
