Salem and Carolina duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.
The Red Sox grabbed a win, 7-4, at Grainger Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Carolina pitcher Don Stephens. Stephens went 0 innings and allowed no runs. With the loss, Carolina is 0-2.
Salem center fielder Walt Spears contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball to right-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Red Sox ahead, 5-2.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Spears.
