King Hammers 2 Homers in 6-4 Win
|
The Carolina Mudcats defeated the Salem Red Sox, 6-4, in part because of designated hitter Jerry King. King hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Mudcats. Artie Hall got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Rudy Thomas was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Mudcats first baseman Shawn Simmons hit a curveball from Dan Bell for a 2-run single. Just like that, Carolina was up, 3-2.
"I was able to square up some pitches," said King.
The defeat makes Salem 7-6.
