The Myrtle Beach Pelicans rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Víctor Trujillo to a win, beating the Carolina Mudcats, 3-2, at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. In 8 innings, Trujillo surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 12 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Rinaldo Saro stitched up the save, his 5th.
The Pelicans got a big at-bat from first baseman Ron Crotty. For the game, Crotty went 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 3rd double of the season gave Myrtle Beach a 3-1 lead.
Said losing manager John Cornely: "Not taking anything away from them, but we swung the bats better than what it showed."
The defeat makes Carolina 10-8.
