Bob Cote made an impact in the 3-1 Potomac win over Salem. Cote, who is tied for 10th in the CAR in total bases with 35, went 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Jim Matthews, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 3.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. Dave Daniels earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.

Cote had a timely hit for Potomac in the top of the sixth. With Potomac trailing 1-0, he turned a 2-2 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season, making it 3-1, Potomac.

"We busted our tails," said Salem manager Jose Nieves. "But we came up short."

The Nationals have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 8th win in 23 games.
