The Frederick Keys had to overcome a fine effort from Carolina pitcher Dan Blair to win, 3-2, at Harry Grove Stadium. Blair went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. José Velásquez picked up the win in relief. Dan Blair took the loss for Carolina. The Keys, now 17-7, have been on a roll in the early going.
Mike Sandoval had a big solo home run for the Keys in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Frederick leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from Dan Blair and swatted a home run to right. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Keys ahead, 2-0.
In postgame remarks, Sandoval hailed his team's "single-minded focus."
