Mudcats Absorb 9-6 Home Loss
The Salem Red Sox overcame a pretty good performance by Carolina shortstop Brad Wright, beating the Mudcats, 9-6, at Grainger Stadium. Wright was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Jorge Estrade picked up the win. His record improves to 2-1. Sergio Martínez took the loss. The save went to Ismael Santos, number 6 for him.

In the top of the second, 23-year old shortstop Johnathan Simpson hit a bases-clearing double. The 12th double of the season for the Salem shortstop put the Red Sox on top, 5-2.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Simpson told a Salem Observer reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."

The Mudcats fall to 10-15 and continue their lackluster start to the 2026 season.
