Led by Jorge López, the Carolina Mudcats defeated the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 12-5. López, a native of Maracaibo, Zulia, was 2-5 with a home run, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once for the Mudcats. Carolina's winning streak has reached 5 games.

Steve Mejía had a big 2-run double for the Mudcats in the top of the fifth inning. With Carolina leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a splitter from Dax Foster and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mudcats ahead, 4-1.

"We need to focus on the fundamentals," said Myrtle Beach manager Jose Lobaton.
