The Carolina Mudcats converted a terrific effort from starter Kevin Key into a win over the Winston-Salem Dash at Grainger Stadium. The Mudcats won the game by a final score of 2-1. Earning his 10th save for Carolina was Rudy Thomas. Carolina, at 21-25, holds down last place in the Southern Division.

Carolina went up, 2-1, on Ferrie van Enk's 3rd double of the season. The run-scoring double, which van Enk hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Winston-Salem pitcher Jesús Martínez stewing.

Carolina manager Chad Allen praised his team's "energy."
