Due in large part to second baseman Ron Bumble, the Salem Red Sox sunk the Potomac Nationals, 11-7. Bumble was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The Red Sox, at 18-31, inhabit third place in the Southern Division.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Red Sox grabbed the lead when Bumble hit his 17th double of the season. The run-scoring double off Don Cash made it 3-2, Salem.
