Blue Rocks Best Red Sox in Pitching Duel
|
The Wilmington Blue Rocks eked out a 1-0 win versus the Salem Red Sox at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Clarence Howell. He was terrific. The winning pitcher was Howell, now 5-1. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 3. Jeff O'Day zipped up his 6th save.
Chris Miyasaka had a direct impact on the outcome. Miyasaka contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Wilmington up, 1-0.
"Clarence executed his pitches at a high level," said Wilmington manager Ozzie Timmons.
By defeating Salem, the first-place Blue Rocks improved to 29-20.
