Salem Stopped, 5-2, by Wilmington
|
Wilmington pitcher Steve Bell had a large part in his team beating the Salem Red Sox, 5-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 6 innings, Bell surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 9 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Steve Brown was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
It could have been a different outcome for Wilmington, had it not been for Robby Sanders, the 24-year old second baseman . Sanders contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Wilmington up, 2-0.
Wilmington manager Ozzie Timmons was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Wilmington.
