The Lynchburg Hillcats faced a tough opponent in Winston-Salem pitcher Doug Beck, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ed Smith Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Beck went 5.2 innings and allowed no runs. Lynchburg reliever Chad Cochrane was the winner. His record is now 4-5. Jeff Jones took the loss. Lynchburg is now 30-34, Winston-Salem 42-22.

Jim Sizemore delivered a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to win it for the Hillcats. For the game, Sizemore was 1-1 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.

"The crowd lost its ever-loving mind tonight," said a grinning Sizemore.
