The Potomac Nationals did just enough to sneak past the Carolina Mudcats, 6-5, at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium. Potomac pitcher Víctor Lara, in particular, had a standout performance. Potomac reliever Waylon Cooley was the winner. His record is now 4-0. The losing pitcher was Dan Blair. The loss makes Carolina 41-22.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Randy Williamson came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Carolina pitcher José Jiménez, he hit a 1-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Potomac on top, 6-5.

"Víctor kept them off-balance, threw a great game for us," said Nationals manager Cesar Martin.
