Riding the 3-hit performance of the 23-year old third baseman Arend Kooiman, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 11-1. The Pelicans improved their record to 35-31 by beating Wilmington.

With Myrtle Beach leading 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Kooiman came up to bat against Wilmington pitcher Pete Mousset. Kooiman hit a slider to right for a grand slam home run. His 3rd home run of the season put the Pelicans on top, 10-0.

"We were able to put some runs on the board," said Kooiman after the game.
