The Lynchburg Hillcats faced a tough opponent in Myrtle Beach pitcher Gene Allen, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ed Smith Stadium by a final score of 5-4. Allen went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Don Williams wrapped it up, recording his 4th save. The win for the Hillcats lifted their record to 39-28.

Lynchburg took a 5-4 lead on Garry Hamilton's 5th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which Hamilton hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Myrtle Beach pitcher Edwin Braun visibly frustrated.

"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Myrtle Beach manager Jose Lobaton.
