The Potomac Nationals faced a tough opponent in Wilmington pitcher Aurelio Quintana, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium by a final score of 7-3. Quintana went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Potomac pitcher Jim Matthews earned the win, hiking his record to 4-1. Jeff O'Day suffered the loss. Potomac is now 29-39. Wilmington is 38-30.

Potomac won the game in part because of Chris Sampson. The third baseman ripped a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nationals ahead, 7-3. For the game, Sampson had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
