The home team was supported by a raucous crowd at Grainger Stadium.

The Potomac Nationals got a superb performance from third baseman Eric Edwards, but the Carolina Mudcats still won the game, 9-7. Edwards was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Rudy Thomas notched his 20th save in 22 chances.

Carolina took the lead, 7-6, on José Rúbio's 11th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Rúbio hit in the bottom of the seventh, made Potomac pitcher Cisco Hernández wince.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Rúbio.

The win elevated the Mudcats to 47-24.
