Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium featured a tense pitchers' duel.
In a tight affair between the Salem Red Sox and the Winston-Salem Dash, pitcher Kevin Fitzpatrick was in the zone. The Salem right-hander helped his team win the game, 2-0. Bobby Louque earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 5-4. Mike Lane earned the save for Salem.
Salem took a 1-0 lead on Rob Thompson's 9th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Thompson hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Winston-Salem pitcher Bud Walker visibly frustrated.
"Clutch hitting plus clutch pitching usually equals a win," said Thompson.
The Red Sox raised their record to 27-47.
